Balboa is danced to faster swing music and consists of the so-called "Pure Bal" - a dance in a close dance posture, which is especially something for the heart with its fine weight changes - and the "Bal Swing" with its cool turns and figures for the eye.

Topic: Dancing Lindy Hop in a gender-neutral and equal way

Lindy Hop is the best known swing dance and has its origins in Afro-American communities in the 20s-40s. It is mostly danced in the open position and has a very joyful and upbeat feel. Like jazz and swing music, the dance lives from improvisation, exchange and togetherness. We learn simple elements from swing and solo jazz in order to be able to dance in a versatile and musical way and place a lot of value on equality, consent and pleasant connections. "Switch" means that both dance roles (follow and lead) can be tried out. Those who only want to lead or only follow are welcome to do so. We use gender-neutral language and aim to create a queer-friendly and open atmosphere. In the course, we also provide historical and cultural context and show videos of artists from this context to develop a sense of the origin, traditions and meaning of dance together.

Blues is a family of dances that stem from African-American culture and history and are danced to different styles of blues music. The dance can be relaxed and soulful, groovy and cool or playful and casual. Blues can be danced solo or in a group or couple connection. This course will focus on aesthetic elements, rhythms and movements that are typical of blues and shaped into your own dance with improvisation and innovation. A big focus in this course is the consideration of aesthetic and cultural values that are part of the understanding of dance. For this we will use a variety of materials, video examples and exploration in the group.
Enrolment is in pairs, but dancing may be solo or in pairs as desired. Much emphasis is placed on equality, so leading and following play a subordinate role.
Gender-neutral language is used in the course and the aim is to create a queer-friendly and open atmosphere.

Solo Jazz (also: Authentic Jazz or Vernacular Jazz) has its origins in Black cultures (especially Afro-American communities) and is often danced in conjunction with couple dances such as Lindy Hop but also standing on its own. In this class we will use the music to guide us through rhythms and movements to express swing and jazz music but also our own ideas, emotions and idiosyncrasies.

The aim of this class is to specifically build strength in the stabilising
muscles that we need most for dancing. Foot
